the grey cats
The Grey Cats are a 7-piece band from South-East London. We have a wide repertoire, including songs from the 60s to the present day.
We first came together in late 2006, collectively inspired by the idea of playing our own brand of favoured rock / classic soul, influenced in music and in mind by, amongst others, The Clash and the Late Great Joe Strummer.
Our Brass led sound - provided by 'The Brass Monkeys' - is distinctive and we mix covers with our own material.
We’re more than happy to take up any suggestions for numbers we should cover and whenever invited to play we always try and fit in a couple of numbers requested by our hosts – if it’s your party we’ll try and accommodate anything within reason, rehearsal time permitting!
Joe Strummer felt that one of his greatest achievements was building bonfires around which people would gather, exchange views, make friends and enjoy life. The Grey Cats like to do the same – although we don’t actually go around lighting bonfires when we play – it’s a metaphor you understand!
